Russia, Armenia discuss cuts in gas prices at government level
YEREVAN, Mar 22 (PRIME) -- Russia and Armenia are discussing a decrease of the gas price for Armenia at the level of the countries’ governments, Armenian Prime Minister Ovik Abramyan told reporters Tuesday.
“As it was reported earlier, this issue has been discussed at a recent meeting of the presidents of Russia and Armenia, now, the discussion continues at the level of the governments. We hope that the tariff will be revised for sure because Russian authorities have a positive approach,” Abramyan said.
The basic price for Russian gas for Armenia is U.S. $165 per 1,000 cubic meters under a deal signed in September 2015 and expiring on April 1. But Armenia’s retail consumers have paid $320 over the period and large consumers $270.
Abramyan said that this time, Armenia will try to reach an agreement that will lead to a real price reduction.
